I like it when a painting tells a story. I often imagine the stories that surround my paintings as I am working on them. Night scenes can make especially interesting stories, in both the details that are revealed, and those that remain in darkness. Dusk and dawn are my favorite times of day to portray, because there is just enough light outside, and lights are being turned on inside, disclosing many aspects, while still leaving enough mystery to keep it interesting. I also find the colors during these times to be particularly beautiful, in the way that the cool blues, and warm oranges and yellows play off of each other.
I hope that those viewing my paintings imagine what it would be like to be a part of the scene before them. I hope they allow themselves to be lost in the aspects of comfort, and also to be drawn in with the intrigue and mystery created by those details left out of the story.
